Publication date: September 26th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

Synopsis:
Harper Bayliss is about to pay the full price of fame. That is, if her stalker’s plans work out.

Hollywood’s new favourite starlet is already feeling overwhelmed by the insecurity of her past, a family that controls her every move, and the stresses that come with her job when a brutal attack from a madman takes that stress to a whole new level. But what neither Harper nor her attacker saw coming was the 6’4”, heavily muscled ex-Marine, Nick Martell, throwing himself in harm’s way to save her. After she visits him in the hospital to offer her thanks, she can’t help but be intrigued by the man she finds beneath the bad boy exterior.

Plagued by guilt over his failure to protect the one person that mattered the most, all Nick wants is to find some peace. The tattooed former Marine is scarred, inside and out, but saving Harper Bayliss might be his first step toward redemption. What’s more, her answer to his heartfelt question is about to send them both down a path of scorching passion…and maybe even love.

With the pressures of Harper’s fame and Nick’s guilt working against them, will their feelings be enough to overcome all the obstacles, including the stalker that’s still out there? If he gets his way he’ll show them that, even if they choose each other, you seldom get to choose the last thing you see.

The Last Thing You See from USA Today bestselling author Emma South is a New Adult Romance about letting go of the past to find unconditional love in the present.

EXCERPT:
“My face maintained perfect innocence when I saw him glance down my body, the lapels of my jacket were open enough to show a bit of skin after all.  Nick looked back up and smiled, and that broke my concentration enough that I smiled back.
“Your belt is tied up wrong,” he said.
“It is?”
“Yeah, a knot like that sticks out too much, and when you’re down on the ground it can dig in and be uncomfortable.  The ends are too long and loose, not to mention it’ll probably come undone a lot.  Of course belts are always coming undone when you roll.”
“Roll?”
“When you spar.”
“Oh.”
“Here, this is how it’s done.”
Nick tugged at my white belt and undid the simple knot I had tied and then moved behind me with the belt in his hands.  Was he putting the moves on me?  I turned my head to the left and kept him just in the corner of my eye.  Was this the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu equivalent of the chivalrous man helping the love interest with her pool shot or her golf swing?
“Left side over right,” he said.
“Huh?”
“Your jacket, left side over the right side, nice and tight.”
“Oh, right.”
My jacket hung loose without the belt to hold it closed and I pulled the right side over my torso before pulling the left side over the top of it.  Nick lifted the belt over my head from behind and brought it down to waist-level.
“OK, watch.  You pull both sides around the back and then to the front again, the belt goes around twice, see?”
“Yeah.”
Nick was close behind me and I leaned back an inch or so, feeling the rear of my shoulders touch his chest as he bent down to tie my belt.  My eyes were on my belt, but my mind was on him.”

Five Signs Your House May Be Haunted

Things go bump in the night. You feel like someone is always watching you. You think you have a ghost, but maybe it’s a just a creepy squirrel scrambling around your attic at night and staring at you through the windows. How can you tell for sure?

The editors of Ladies’ Haunted Home Journal are back with an easy guide to determining whether a paranormal presence infests your house! Before calling the ghost trappers, consider whether you have any of the following signs:

Cold Spots: One or more areas in your house might seem much colder the space around it. This may be a corner, closet, or other out-of-the-way spot. You may be excited to learn that when you feel the cold spot, you’re not just in the presence of a restless dead spirit, you’re also touching it! You’re almost inside the ghost, and it’s kind of inside you. Pretty neat. Important note: A cold spot inside your refrigerator or freezer may be caused by the appliance itself.

Strange Sounds: You may hear moaning, groaning, thumping or crashing late at night. Make sure it isn’t an elderly neighbor or relative bumbling around your house. If you hear voices threatening you with death or dismemberment, you might consider the benefits of spending the night at a Motel 6.

Mysterious Motion: Plates slide off the counter. Doors open or close by themselves. The chandelier leaped down from the ceiling, flew across the room, and tried to kill you last week. You’re beginning to think something may be amiss. First, make sure there aren’t any logical causes for these problems, such as keeping your counter too greasy, or a broken hinge in the door, or that idiot who installed your chandelier. If you can’t find an explanation, odds are you’ve got a ghost (or a poltergeist, but let’s not split hairs).

Absurd Disappearances: Your keys disappear from your end table, only to be found in the fish tank. Your good silver vanishes, piece by piece, and you discover all of down in a mysterious back corner of the basement. It’s either a family member with bizarre hoarding tendencies or a mischievous ghost. Either way, you’ve got an annoying problem on your hands.

Full Apparitions: If you have seen a ghost appear and disappear, you probably have a ghost. We don’t really have an alternate explanation for this one. Call your local paranormal exterminator today!

We hope these tips will help you sort out whether your house is haunted or your family just weird! If you have further questions, please read our pamphlet: My House is Haunted – What Now? Good luck with that ghost!

EXCERPT

Angrily, she reached for the bottle of shampoo and squeezed a liberal amount into her hand. She set it back on the shower caddy and lathered her hair with the softly scented gel. Almost instantly, she began to feel better. The sweat that had collected throughout the night was washing away along with some of her bitterness. The soothing feeling of her hair becoming clean was only surpassed by the feeling of her fingers kneading her scalp. She sighed a little at the feeling and her mind drifted to Malcolm’s touch.
“Stupid, selfish man!” she muttered to herself as she rinsed her hair.
“I resemble that remark,” a dark voice said from behind her.
Victoria spun around to face the intruder and her eyes narrowed at the sight of Malcolm holding open the glass door to the shower. His chest and face were partly obscured by the steamy fog from the hot water, and he looked unearthly. “What are you doing here?” she asked with a hint of dread in her voice.
“I couldn’t stay away from you,” he said as he took a step closer to her.
She gulped down some air and crossed her arms over her breasts unconsciously. His naked muscles rippled as he stepped forward, and her body quivered at the sight of him. She could feel his eyes wandering over her and she felt hot under his gaze. “Malcolm,” she whispered.
He didn’t give her much chance to speak as his arms quickly wrapped around her waist. His lips crashed into hers like a tidal wave, and she was so caught up in it that she couldn’t breathe. She was drowning in his kiss and loved every moment of it. His passion inundated her with more force than the expensive shower jets, and bathed her far more thoroughly. Her arms pulled him closer to her and she slowly traced her fingers up his back.
“Victoria,” he groaned in agony. “I need to have more of you.”
His words sent shivers up her spine. Tears pricked the back of her eyes as she began to feel the tiniest twinge of hope. “I need you too,” she whispered, clinging to his neck.

Vault of Sins Excerpt

In my dream, I’m alone.
The forest swells up all around me, warm and dark and moist. It’s a cocoon of comfort, if I didn’t know better. This is always the worst part of the dream—the feeling of entrapment, of loneliness. I’m lying on the ground, the underbrush of the woods spidering over my body, and I smell the Compass Room again. The wood fire, the soil, the sweat—and the blood, permeating above all the other odors.
It’s always night in the dream-Compass Room. Fog rolls through the air, thick enough to taste.
I hear the other candidates. Tanner and Jace scream the loudest. Shrieks of anguish, like their flesh is slowly being ripped from their bones. I shut my eyes to wait it out because I know that I can’t save them.
But then I hear Casey.
The underbrush ropes me to the ground, growing tighter as I twist and writhe, trying to free myself to get to him. His voice rips the night in half, and I scream to match his, back arching off the earth, the entire forest shattering into a thousand sharp pieces.
I jerk awake, lying on my back with my hand pressed to my chest, waiting for my heart to stop pounding. I inhale the cold air of my living room and hold it in my lungs as the terror dissipates. It’s like waiting for a brain freeze to end. I get up, flipping on all the light switches in the silent house, checking the shadowy corners for dream monsters.
Not dream monsters. Illusions. Nick or Meghan, a Compass Room test crawling from the darkness. There’s nothing in the house, but of course there wouldn’t be.
I peel back the curtain in the living room. Fingers of the dark trees sway back and forth with the wind and I want to throw up my heart. I let the curtain fall back into place, rush to the kitchen, and take a long pull from the tequila bottle. The good tequila bottle.
Returning to the living room, I flop back onto the bed.
The woods in my dreams are thick, always lurking with Compass Room devils. The woods around my home are nothing more than a scattering of sad little trees, but my mind doesn’t care.
Gemma and the division thought they erased Compass Room C from existence, but they can’t. It’s everywhere.

Excerpt from BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS

Once we’d stowed my stuff in the back of my car, Ethan opened the car door and waited for me to get in. Even though I wanted to ask him so many questions, I was afraid to speak. It felt like we’d moved to a whole new level in our friendship, but I wasn’t sure what that level was.

Every nerve ending urged me to hug him, to show my appreciation, but I was unsure. Would he pull away? I didn’t need any more rejection in my life. “Thank you for being there,” I said in an unsteady voice.

Ethan clasped my wrist and pulled me into his arms, holding me close. “I’ll always be here for you.”

I shuddered against his chest, mumbling into his flannel shirt. “You weren’t at school and I didn’t see you after practice. I thought for sure no one would hear me scream when those guys finally got their hands on–”

Warm fingers tilted my chin up. “I had something to do today, but I’d never leave you hanging. When I saw your stuff on the field and then I heard a guy yelling, ‘She went this way,’ in the woods…” he paused, tensing. “I freaked.”

“You got to me just in time.” I tried to smile but my lips trembled. “Who knew knights wore flannel shirts and Led Zeppelin tees?” I knew I sounded like a goof, but I didn’t care. I wanted him to know how much his rescue meant to me.

Ethan leaned close and I closed my eyes as he lightly kissed my cheekbone, then my forehead. He had no idea that his gentle kiss had melted something inside me, how much I craved the physical connection. His warm lips lingered against my skin for a second before he took a step back and shoved his hands in his jean pockets.

“I’m no hero, Nara.” His gaze narrowed briefly toward the woods. “Go home. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Excerpt from BEAUTIFUL DEMONS
The tone of his voice turned my body to melted chocolate. I steadied myself against the wall, afraid that if he moved any closer, I really would melt. I felt his nearness in my bones, a vibration of warm, flushed energy.
“You better get inside,” he said, checking his watch even though it was probably too dark to see the time. The way he raised his arm and leaned forward brought his chest so close to me, I wanted to run my hand along the rippled muscles I felt certain I would find underneath his black t-shirt. “It’s way past your bedtime.”
My heart beat so hard in my chest my ears were filled with the loud thumping sound of it. I dipped under his arm and pushed open the barn door, grateful for the refreshing rush of cool, night air.
“I won’t tell if you won’t,” I said.
“Your secret’s safe with me,” Jackson said. He drew an X over his heart as I ran toward the house, disappearing into the shadows.
EXCERPT FROM GUARDIANS: THE GIRL
She looks at me. She has no response. There was nothing she could have said that the two of us didn’t already know. I take her hands. She had started crying. I wipe her tears away with my hand.
“I can’t save the world, Marcus. I’m not strong enough.”
“You can’t save the world, you don’t know the world. So you have to focus and narrow it down to the people you do know—your mom, your uncle, your neighbors. You have to fight for the people that you love. You. Have. To. Fight.”

EXCERPT FROM LARK

He runs a hand through his hair, but the waves fall right back to their disheveled state. The glow from the torch reflects off his hair, causing its already coppery hue to glow like embers. He is actually quite attractive. His features are angular but in a perfect sort of way. His skin is surprisingly freckle free considering the auburn color of his hair. He actually has a better tan than me. His pretty green eyes are framed by dark eyelashes most women would kill for. And he has full, kissable pink lips.
He’s actually sort of swoon-worthy.
A vision of Grey pops in my head and I feel guilty. Which is ridiculous for so many reasons. What the heck, Mia? I mentally slap the boy-crazy girl out of my head. Greyson and I are just friends, and this Jacoby character, regardless of how dreamy he may appear, is aiding and abetting my captivity. Not exactly the kind of guy you want to bring home to meet mom.
“Mia, I’m not going to bite.” He gently pats the spot right next to him again. I finally concede and sit down as far away from him as possible, which isn’t far on the narrow cot, and take my less than appealing breakfast while trying to appear grateful. I actually am a little hungry. I take a small nibble of the toast and it’s not terrible, so I take another bite.
“There. That is much better. I would hate to see you starve to death.”
“Why do you care anyway?” I finally say.
“Well, let’s just say that I don’t agree with keeping anyone, especially pretty girls, against their will. I would much rather they make the choice to be in my company, but since you are here anyway, I figure we better make the most of it.” He winks at me again.
“Is there something in your eye?”
“No, why?” He asks with a bemused expression.
“Then stop winking at me. It’s annoying.”
“Beautiful and feisty,” he mutters to himself. “I might never leave.”

Synopsis:
Jack Daniels is the cure to all evils.

Sex should be casual and, preferably, anonymous.

Giving a damn is for nurses, philanthropists and suicide hotlines.

My name is Mathew Rogers and those are the values I built my adult life around. They are also the reason I had to forsake everything I loved in Seattle and embark on a solitary road trip across the country, with no direction other than searching for the next small town, the next girl, and the closest liquor store.

Boredom, frustration and a series of unfortunate decisions led me to the rickety-ass town of Jolene, Alabama—a town I wanted to leave behind from the moment I passed the welcome sign. But it was there where I met her. The girl who made me question everything I’ve always believed in, and the only one who has ever had the power to break my heart.

Her name is Lexie.

She’s beautiful, and I’m pretty sure she hates me.

And for once in my life, I give enough of a damn that I keep finding a reason to stay.

10 Random things about THE REASON I STAY
1- THE REASON I STAY was originally entitled Madeleine, which was also Lexie’s original name.
2- In my first outline the story was set in LA and Matt worked as a special effects makeup artist for the film industry.
3- Creating the fictional town of Jolene, Alabama, was suggestion from my husband.
4- Whenever I describe the color of Lexie’s nail polish in the book, I’m actually describing the color I had on that week.
5- Lexie was originally a strawberry blonde, but then I saw the photo that would become the cover of the book and I knew she was a golden blonde.
6- It took me a solid month to write chapter six. When I finally finished it, I cried and danced like a crazy person, which scared my cat so badly she spent the afternoon behind the fridge.
7- Lexie’s car is named Quick in honor of my bunny, Quicksilver. He had two strokes in February and spent about two months recovering on my lap while I wrote. He’s doing amazing now, by the way.
8- All of my beta readers received little cameos. They were very happy about them.
9- Like Matt, I’ve never had chocolate chip pancakes. Like Lexie, I find the concept fantastic.
10- Cash, Lexie’s dog was created in honor of one of my husband’s childhood dogs who suffered a lot in the hands of mean people, but was thoroughly loved by his human best friend.
